NEWMARKET UPDATES
🌟 New Date Set for Splash of Culture

After getting rained out earlier, Splash of Culture is back!
Head to Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Dr.) on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 PM for an evening of food, lights, and live music. Pianist Patrick Fockler opens the night, followed by performances from Quisha Wint with Daniel Panetta & The Midnight Company. Main event runs from 7:30 to 9:30 PM.
It’s free to attend — just bring a chair and enjoy an outdoor concert under the stars.

🌱 New Bins, New Schedule: Recycling Update
Newmarket is shaking up how it handles recycling. Starting next year, households will switch to large wheeled carts instead of the smaller bins, and recycling collection will come every other week.
Why the change? Ontario’s new Blue Box Regulation shifts recycling costs from taxpayers to the companies that create packaging. Producers will now fund and run the program, meet recycling targets, and report results.
The aim? Less waste, lower emissions, and smarter packaging that’s easier to recycle.

⛺ Encampment Cleared By Municipal Team
Earlier this month, an encampment had set up in the heart of Newmarket’s Environmental Park, but it has now been cleared. Municipal staff, working with York Region, cleared the site and ensured belongings were safely handled.
The Town says they coordinated with regional partners to support the individuals involved while restoring the park for public use.

🌿 Newmarket Takes Charge of Fairy Lake & Bailey Park
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) has officially transferred Fairy Lake and Bailey Ecological Park to the Town of Newmarket. The Town will now oversee maintenance, public access, and programming, ensuring these green spaces remain preserved and enjoyable for residents.
This change allows Newmarket to better respond to community needs while protecting the ecological integrity of these popular parks for years to come.

🚴♂️ NewRoads LakeRide Wraps Up After 10 Years
The LakeRide, first launched by NewRoads in 2016, celebrated its final ride on Sunday, September 14, marking the end of 15 years of community support for Southlake Regional Health Centre. Over the years, the event raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Southlake’s mental health programs, and this year organizers aimed to finish strong, contributing toward their $250,000 goal.
Cyclists of all ages and abilities took to the road on various routes, enjoying scenic views while supporting a meaningful cause. The final ride closed the chapter on a beloved tradition, leaving behind a legacy of generosity, camaraderie, and community spirit.
